A TikTok video has spread Elliot Gindi death rumors flying far and wide a week after the former Tighnari voice actor was fired from Genshin Impact.

Elliot Gindi is an American voice actor based in Brooklyn, New York. He was the voice of the Genshin Impact character Tighnari until Hoyoverse, the game’s developer announced that it would be recasting the role last week, after a series of allegations were made against Gindi. He has since made a public apology.

Now rumors that the voice actor has died have ferociously spread online and are seemingly linked to a TikTok video viewed almost 240,000 times at the time of writing. Crucially, the death rumors are unfounded and unconfirmed.

TikTok video claims Elliot Gindi is dead

On February 28, a TikTok user posted a video in the style of a news report that claimed Elliot Gindi had died.

The video’s voiceover alleges: “Last night, the famous American voice actor Elliot Gindi was found dead in his apartment. The cause of his death is still unknown, but we assume it was suicide.”

Despite the hashtags “fake” “not real” and “edit” being present in the TikTok’s caption, many viewers appeared to take the information at face value. One user wrote: “Is this confirmed true or just a rumor?”

A second user commented: “I actually feel bad but i won’t forgive him for doing something terrible.”

Video creator confirms it is ‘fake’

The Elliot Gindi death rumor spread to Twitter where Genshin fans continued to seek clarification. An answer seems to have come in the form of a tweet containing a screenshot of a comment in which the creator of the original video confirms that it is fake.

The tweet also claims that the creator used an AI voice to make the voiceover sound like a legitimate news broadcast.

Gindi announced that he would take a step back from social media after confirming that some of the allegations were true and issuing an apology for the claims made against him. He has since deactivated all of his social media accounts.

Elliot Ginid fired from Genshin Impact after accusations

On Thursday, February 16, Genshin Impact announced in a Twitter thread that Elliot Gindi would no longer voice the Tighnari character “due to a breach of contract.”

The thread explained that a new actor would be cast to voice the character in subsequent versions of the game and that existing in-game voice lines which use Gindi’s voice will gradually be re-recorded.

The thread was signed off with: “Thank you for your support, Travelers!”
